What is a Pole Barn?

“Pole Barn” is a term used to describe a building or shelter that uses wood framing (often as opposed to steel) for its primary structural elements. It is often described as Post Frame Construction and it can be a more economical form of construction to cover land and provide shelter than metal-frame buildings. While economical in comparison to metal buildings, pole barns are generally far stronger and much more durable than lightweight structures like pre-fab carports. While many Pole Barns are open-shelter structures with no walls, they can be fully or partially enclosed.

What types of Pole Barns does Smith Built make?

We design, manufacture, and assemble kits for open shelters, fully enclosed structures, or any combination of the two, as well as lean-to’s. We stock trusses in a variety of widths (12’, 16’, 20’, 24’, 30’, and 40’) and are able to provide you with trusses up to 60’ by special order. We provide all of the wood structural elements (columns, purlins, fascia), and we manufacture and fabricate all of the roofing and trim components in-house.
